Offer Description
As a modern university with a strong focus on research and teaching, the Technical University of Leoben offers outstanding opportunities for career advancement in both scientific and non-scientific domains.
The Chair of Physics in the Department Physics, Mechanics and Electrical Engineering has a position for a full-time University Assistant (m/f/d).
Salary Group B1 according to the UNI-KV, monthly minimum salary excl. Szlg.: € 4.932,90 for 40 hours per week (14x per year).
Date of expected start of employment: October 1, 2025
Term of employment: 6-year
Hours of employment per week: 40 hours
What you can expect:
At the Chair of Physics, we cover basic physics courses for all bachelor's degree programs at the Montanuniversität. In research and research-led teaching in the master's and doctoral programmes, we deal with the physics of modern materials, in particular with the synthesis and characterization of complex nanostructured materials and their application potential in energy storage as well as in micro- and nanoelectronics. Examples include nanoporous carbon for gas storage or for battery electrodes, as well as 2D semiconductors and 2D dielectrics for future computer technologies. Unique methodological expertise exists in particular for in-situ/operando (synchrotron) X-ray and neutron scattering as well as in the field of scanning probe microscopy. In addition to our experimentally oriented activities, we are looking for a dynamic researcher to support us in the analysis of complex experimental data and their physical interpretation with atomistic and mesoscale “in-silico experiments”. HPC infrastructure is available at Montanuniversität.
Requirements:
Completed degree in physics or content-related scientific/technical master's degree, completed PhD, proven knowledge and several years of relevant postdoctoral experience with physical modeling and computer simulation of nanomaterials.
Desired qualifications:
Experience in the field of modeling of complex nanoscale materials e.g. with MD/MC and/or with data-driven methods such as machine learning is expected. Advanced programming skills as well as good written and spoken German and English are strongly desired. Initiative, teamwork and communication skills as well as the willingness to acquire project funding are required.
Tasks:
· Teaching courses in German and English in particular in basic physics in the Bachelor's programs.
· Establishment and lead of an internationally visible research group for in-silico investigation of structure and functional properties of complex, multiscale materials.
· Close cooperation with the experimental groups at the chair in the investigation of new phenomena (e.g. properties of water in nano-confinement) and/or the development of new methods (e.g. in the field of coherent X-ray radiation at synchrotron or FEL sources).
We offer numerous benefits, including:
· Convenient public transport connections (train and bus access)
· Family-friendly work environment and good work-life balance
· Access to occupational health services
· Health promotion initiatives and annual health day
· Comprehensive university sports and fitness programs
· Employee discounts at selected shops and services
· Language courses and support for international staff
