Offer Description
A four year PhD position is available to start in September 2026 with Dr Peter Byrne in the Centre for Synthesis and Chemical Biology in University College Dublin School of Chemistry. The PhD stipend will be €25,000 per year; this amount is not subject to tax. Payment for lab demonstration and tutoring activities will be additional to this amount. Funding to cover fees at EU rate and purchase of equipment and materials is also provided.
The PhD project will focus on development and exploitation of novel methodology for "low waste", low resource use synthesis of valuable products including pharmaceuticals and their precursors. Students with an interest in some or all of these topics are encouraged to apply by sending a CV and cover letter with two references to peter.byrne@ucd.ie if interested in this position, together with the names and contact details of two referees. Informal inquiries can be sent to the same e-mail address.
The deadline for applications will be Tuesday April 14th. Interviews will take place shortly thereafter.
Candidates should possess a first class or upper second class B.Sc.(Hons) degree in Chemistry or a closely related subject.
