About
Outline
The Industrial Fellowships - Outbound Mobility funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR), supports collaborative PhD and postdoctoral research where the majority of research time is spent outside Luxembourg, while maintaining strong, structured cooperation with a Luxembourg-based private-sector R&D partner.
There are two rounds of applications per year. The next round of applications closes on April 29, 2026.
What is funded
Funding covers the researcher’s salary costs only (no overheads/consumables), with a maximum FNR contribution to annual salary costs of 77,637 EUR per year (Postdoc) or 54,985 EUR per year (PhD), paid to the Host Institution under an employment contract. A mandatory salary top-up by the industrial partner applies (15% of the FNR contribution).
For the outbound mobility projects, at least 25% of the work must be spent in the company in Luxembourg. The programme also includes a one-off travel lump sum and a training allowance.
Duration
Project duration is between 1 or 2 years (Postdoc), or 3 years + possible 1-year extension (PhD, up to 4 years total, subject to positive assessment).
Eligibility
PhD students and postdocs. The scheme is open to all research domains and aims to strengthen international collaboration, accelerate knowledge transfer, and support researchers’ career development through joint supervision between public and private partners.
